Grantown on Spey, Bed & Breakfast at Willowbank Guest House
in the Scottish Highlands

Environmental Policy.

We have received a SILVER AWARD to recognise our support for GREEN TOURISM INITIATIVES
- something that we are very proud of.
It has only been made possible by our own efforts, and the support of our guests.

Let us just give you a couple of interesting facts about your stay here at Willowbank:

  • A Full cooked breakfast will take about 3 hours of vigorous exercise to work off.
  • Porridge is better for you than sausages!!
  • Fruit is better still!
  • We have nine guest rooms & along with the public areas, there are 193 light bulbs. On average each light bulb is 40 watts, that will use over 7.7kw per hour just by having the lights on.
  • There are 8 toilets, with an average capacity of 6 litres per flush. If you flush your lavatory 6 times a day during your stay, that will use about 58,000 litres of water a year.
  • There are a total of 33 central heating radiators in the building, and even though our boiler is very efficient, we use over 12000 litres of oil every year to keep you warm.
  • Each room has bed sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers and towels, and in an average year we wash over 7500 items of laundry

We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and feel very privileged to do so. Your visit is important to us, and the economy of the area. Try to imagine just how unspoilt and pollution free the Highlands were, before we all discovered it as a great place to visit. We try to minimise the impact we are all having on the delicate balance of our environment.

Here at Willowbank, we try to strike a balance between ensuring you have an enjoyable stay, and the environmental footprint we ALL leave behind.

To that aim we have the following policies that we try to follow:

  • We ask you to pre-order your breakfast to minimise cooking energy use, and minimise waste.
  • We have placed low energy lighting where we can to reduce consumption, but we ask that you switch off lights when they are not needed, and please don’t leave everything on when you leave your room. (Do you do that at home?)
  • We have reduced the amount of water used for each lavatory flush by adjustment of the system, but again please use water wisely.
  • Please keep warm in your room, but also bare in mind all that oil, and the pollution to the environment it causes.
  • We do not change the laundry in your room as a matter of course, but do so on request

All the above measures DO help the environment, allow us to conform to legislation, and to be honest keep our expenses down,
which in turn means that we can keep the room rates down for you

We always strive to give you a great stay and protect the area we all love so well
